If it’s considered a “receiver’s dream” to catch a Super Bowl touchdown, perhaps, then, it was only fitting that Jerry Rice raised the bar and reset the standard with his second-straight three-touchdown performance on football’s biggest stage. Nothing — not a grade four shoulder separation, nor the flu bug — could stop Rice from putting San Francisco on his back, as he overwhelmed San Diego’s secondary on 44-yard, 15-yard, and seven-yard scores during a 55-10 avalanche. As is often the case with the NFL’s record books, Rice recorded a clean sweep, taking the Super Bowl’s No. 1 spot in receptions (28), yards (512), and touchdowns scored (seven). Jan. 29, 1995’s box score was just as gaudy as Rice propelled the 49ers past the Chargers through a 10-catch, 149-yard, three-touchdown spectacle.
