In between leaping skyward for acrobatic takeaways and finishing at No. 2 on the end-of-season interceptions leaderboard, Eric Allen left one thing rest assured in 1989: whatever the occasion, Philadelphia’s All-Pro cornerback would rise to it. Determined to ensure that only his Eagles would take flight on Nov. 23, 1989, the future Hall of Famer produced a “greatest hits”-type play against Dallas, preventing a touchdown with a highflying, ambitious interception. The final score — a 27-0 win over the Cowboys — told quite the story, and Allen’s individual success was just as noteworthy, as he tallied pick No. 7 of the season, at that point, the NFL’s best mark.
