Becoming a fan favorite for one of the NFL’s most storied franchises in just four seasons isn’t easy, but as Green Bay’s highlight reels and record books attest, Walter Stanley knew a thing or two about working quickly. Often bringing his best against Detroit, Stanley’s touchdown trifecta encouraged a career-best game on Nov. 27, 1986, starting by breaking free for a left-sideline 21-yard touchdown. The wheels were spinning, and they wouldn’t soon stop, as Stanley re-emerged for a same-spot, 36-yard touchdown minutes later. Nothing, though, would compare to Stanley’s final endzone find — a game-winning, 83-yard punt return touchdown — in which he mixed spins and blazing speed to secure the Packers’ 44-40 win over the Lions. The final tally, ultimately, read as follows: 124 yards and two scores, alongside 163 return yards and an additional score.
