Early in his first season with the New York Jets, All-Pro center Kevin Mawae showed Jets fans a sign of the special play that was to come over the next eight seasons on this play in Week 3 of the 1994 NFL Season. On a screen pass to the running back, Mawae perfectly executed his assignment, holding off the defensive tackle in front of him just long enough for the play to develop before galloping downfield to get in position to block the next level of the defense. And he did just that, pancaking a defender 15 yards past the line of scrimmage to open a lane for the ball carrier that sprung him into open space and down the field for an 82-yard touchdown. The Jets would go on to win this one over the Colts, 44-6, on Sept. 20, 1998.
